With a heavy downpour that lasted for more than an hour, followed by light and moderate showers throughout the night on Saturday.
The rains continued on Sunday as well in several parts, with the city recording its highest rainfall in 24 hours for the month of January in the last 10 years. The cumulative rainfall in those 24 hours was pegged at 10.1 mm.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, while Saturday night’s rainfall was the highest in
24 hours for January in 10 years, the all-time record for January was registered 97 years ago, on January 3, 1922 to be precise, when the city recorded 93.2 mm in 24 hours.
Figures registered by the Telangana State Planning Development Society (TSPDS) during the last 24 hours show that Shapur Nagar received the highest rainfall of 54.7 mm followed by Madhapur (53.8 mm), Quthbullapur (48.5 mm), Asifnagar (46.3 mm) and Golkonda (40.8 mm).
