The Hyderabad witnessed incessant rainfall all through Friday, following the formation of a deep depression over west central Bay of Bengal that intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Daye’. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) figures, Alwal received the highest rainfall of 6.3 mm, followed by Chandanagar (5.8 mm), Quthbullapur and Kukatpally (5.3 mm), Mehdipatnam (4.8 mm) and Srinagar Colony (4 mm). Disaster relief and monsoon relief teams were kept on alert by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as the predictions hinted at the likelihood of light to moderate rains.

Weathermen said that the situation would remain much the same over the next few days. “Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, city experienced fairly widespread rainfall (on Friday). It is expected to continue for the next two days,” said Raja Rao, meteorologist, Indian Meteorological Department,

Hyderabad.

The continuous downpour, meanwhile, led to a massive drop in day-time temperatures — from 30 degree Celsius recorded on Thursday to 23 degree Celsius. In fact, as per IMD’s forecast the temperatures in Hyderabad will remain below 30 degree Celsius till September 23, in view of the scattered rains expected to lash the city.

On Friday, the impact of the cyclonic storm was most strongly felt in the northern districts of Telangana with Arnakonda in Karimnagar district receiving very heavy rainfall of above 12 cm.

The TSDPS figures revealed that Kunaram in Peddapalli district received the second highest rainfall (11.45 cm) followed by Kalwacherla in Peddapalli (10.85 cm) and Gullakota in Jagtial district (10.23 cm). Several other areas in Adilabad, Jayashankar Bhupapally, Mancherial, Rajanna-Siricilla, Nizamabad also received rainfall between six and nine cms.
