Legal Metrology Controller CV Anand has directed officials to take strict action against outlets which do not pass on the benefit of reduced GST taxes to customers.
As the GST for restaurants was reduced from 18 per cent and 12 per cent for AC and non-AC respectively to a uniform five per cent, some restaurants are allegedly cheating customers by charging the same amount.
While many restaurants did pass on the benefit of reduced taxes to customers, some refused to do so, citing risk of losses. An official statement from the Civil Supplies
Department, however, has made it clear that inflation of prices in lieu of GST will not be ignored, and cases would be booked under Consumer Protection Act against restaurants violating the norms.
CV Anand directed officials to keep a continuous surveillance on implementation of new GST rates. He also issued directions to officials to keep a check on whether packaged goods are sold with new reduced prices or not.New, reduced price stickers should be pasted on all packed goods that come under revised GST slabs, he said.
