For the second consecutive day, city recorded a sharp drop in maximum temperature triggered by Cyclone Phethai.
On Tuesday, Hyderabad’s temperature graphs registered an astounding nine degree Celsius drop and the temperature was clocked at 19.8 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature too dropped from 18 to 15 degree Celsius.
“The city has witnessed colder days in December last year. But, this sudden drop in temperature has caught people unawares,” said a Met department
official.
Chilly winds swept across the city forcing denizens to remain indoors. Wrapped in woollen clothes, many were seen lighting bonfires to beat the severe cold. Meteorologists attributed the sudden drop in temperature to northerly winds.
“There has been an overcast sky since yesterday. Cold winds blowing from the north coupled with light rains have resulted in drastic drop in the mercury levels. These winds are causing the chills,” said YK Reddy, director, IMD, Hyderabad.
