City on Monday recorded a minimum temperature of 14.9 degrees Celcius, reportedly the lowest minimum temperature in the last decade, according to the Hyderabad unit of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Though the daytime temperature continued to hover just below 30 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature has now dropped significantly.

As per the date by Telangana State Development and Planning Society (TSDPS), Rajendranagar under the GHMC limits recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. The chilly weather is mainly because of the northerly winds and the passing of cyclone Sitrang.

The chilly weather is expected to continue as clear blue skies, warm days and cool nights are likely to prevail for the next few days, the Met officials said. A weather expert warned earlier that the city will get unusually cold until October 26-27 as the region is having massive dry winds pushing from the North. The temperature may dip up to 14-15 degrees Celsius and this sudden blast of

cold air is likely to cause some health problems, he added.

It is to be noted that the winter season has not officially arrived in the city. The winter usually begins in Hyderabad in the month of December and lasts till February. However, the city may see an early winter this year. While announcing the withdrawal of monsoon from Hyderabad last week, the IMD had said winter season will make its presence felt in the city from November 3.

Other parts of Telangana are also witnessing a dip in temperature. According to IMD, Patancheru and Medak recorded a minimum temperature of 13.6°C. Hakimpet saw a minimum temperature of 14.7°C, while Hyderabad recorded 14.9°C and Adilabad saw 15.2°C, followed by Dundigal (16°C), Hanamkonda (17.5°C), Mahabubnagar (17.5°C), Ramagundam (17.5°C), Nizamabad (17.8°C), Khammam (19.6°C), Nalgonda (21°C) and Bhadrachalam (22°C).

The officials predict that there will be a slight increase in temperature after three to four days.
