Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a company under the Union ministry of power, on Wednesday announced that it will replacing 4.5 lakh street lights in the City of Pearls with energy efficient LED lights over the next six months.

“From July 1, we are embarking on a project in Hyderabad. In about five to six months, 4.5 lakh street lights will be replaced with energy efficient LED lights. For this, we will not charge a single paisa to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation,“ EESL managing director Saurabh Kumar told newspersons here on Wednesday .

The initiative will lead to energy savings of around 55% and GHMC will pay EESL over a period of seven years through these energy savings, he added. EESL has also tied up with self-help groups under the Town Level Federation through GHMC and Mee Seva centres across Hyderabad to



facilitate distribution of energy efficient appliances at subsidised rates to individual households under the Union government's Ujala scheme. It aims to distribute 5 lakh LED tube lights, 1 lakh energy efficient fans and 1 crore LED bulbs across Te langana households this fi scal. “This can lead to annu al savings of `530 crore in consumer bills, energy sa ving of 133 crore kWh and reduction of 10 lakh tonnes of CO2,“ Kumar added.

Under the scheme, consumers will be able to buy 20 watt LED tube lights and energy efficient fans at `230 and `1,150 each, respectively .Consumers can also purchase energy efficient LED bulbs at `70 each.
EESL will provide free of cost replacement of LED bulbs and tube lights for all technical faults for three years and will offer 2.5 years of technical warranty for energy efficient fans.
