The Hyderabad City ranks first in the Swachh Survekshan rankings vis-a-vis the metro cities -- Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The city has got 22nd rank in the overall rankings competing with 434 cities. Hyderabad ranked 19 during the previous year competing with 75 cities.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Thursday congratulated the civic body staff on achieving the honour. He said the city has achieved 1605 marks out of a total of 2000.The GHMC commissioner said the city had lost 253 marks due to poor documentation, lack
of open defecation points, poor citizen feedback and others reasons. However, he said the GHMC would overcome these marks during the next year's Swachh rankings and will ensure single digit ranking.
Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the city has achieved the rank in Swachh ratings under the supervision of Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister K T Rama Rao. Greater Mumbai Maharashtra ranked 29 by obtaining 1535 marks, Bruhat Bengaluru (BBMP) obtained 201st rank by 968 marks, Greater Chennai (Chennai) obtained 235th rank by obtaining 916 marks.
