Hyderabad roads continued to remain unsafe for pedestrians during the year. Data showed that 42 per cent of all victims on the roads were pedestrians.

The number of road accidents increased 14.5 per cent in 2023, when compared to 2022.

Hyderabad ‘kotwal’ K. Sreenivasa Reddy said that road safety remained a top priority through 2023, with a target to reduce the

fatality rate by 15 per cent compared to the previous year.

He said that 65 accident-prone areas have been identified and a road accident analysis group (RAAG) had been formed to study the causes of road accidents with a view to taking up remedial measures. The city police had been strictly enforcing checks against drunk driving, he said.
