Hyderabad witnesses the first spell of monsoon rain on Wednesday

Hyderabad witnessed the first spell of monsoon on Wednesday evening, with the much-awaited showers bringing relief from a long summer of soaring temperatures well past the usual peak.

However, the India Meteorological Department, which predicted the onset of monsoon on Thursday, did not officially declare the rain spell as an indicator of monsoon onset.

An IMD official told to Media persons that "We will observe the rainfall recorded before the onset of the monsoon is declared in the state. As of now, the rainfall is recorded only in some districts and is significantly very less."

The highest rainfall in the state, of 82.5 mm, was recorded at Jangaon, which was followed by Nagarkurnool (58.5 mm) and Siddipet (55.8 mm), according to the TS Development and Planning Society report.

Rainfall was also recorded at isolated places of Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Vikarabad, Rangarreddy, Hanamkonda, Warangal, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Sangareddy, Mahbubabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri.

Hyderabad, meanwhile, recorded a rainfall



of 22 mm at Gachibowli, followed by Madhapur (18.8 mm) and BHEL (18.3 mm).

Light rain spells were also recorded at Bandlaguda Jagri, Narsingi, Mehdipatnam, Masab Tank, Rajendra Nagar, Asif Nagar, Malakpet, Jubilee Hills, Moosapet, Quthbullapur, Kapra, Chanda Nagar, Patancheru, Khajaguda, Hafeezpet, Kushaiguda, Nallagandla, Sainikpuri, Cherlapally, Mallapur, Nacharam, Boduppal and Malkajgiri on Wednesday evening.

Light to moderate rains or thundershowers are very likely to occur in the state over the next five days and a yellow alert has been issued for the same.

The temperatures in the state will remain below 40 degree Celsius mark, in the range of 36-40°C, with a yellow alert issued for all 33 districts for the next three days.

The city will experience a partly cloudy sky or thundershowers with maximum and minimum temperatures of 37°C and 27°C, respectively. Surface winds are likely to be north-westerlies with a speed of 6-10 kmph and relative humidity of 61 per cent.
