Hyderabad: Azhar Maqsusi (37) has been distributing free food under the Chanchalguda flyover and Secunderabad Gandhi Hospital for the last five years. He now wants more people to join his endeavour, for which he has launched ‘Do Roti’ campaign.

Under this campaign, Azhar is asking anyone who wants to help poor, to carry two rotis while they go out and give it to any needy person. He says though everybody wants to help poor people, but they can’t spend a huge amount for a cause which prevents them from coming forward to help poor. ‘Do Roti’ campaign is affordable and one has to just carry two extra chapatis while one goes for your work and give to poor person in need of food.

On the first day of the campaign, Azhar distributed rotis to nearly 150 people in Hyderabad.

Azhar’s generosity stems from the hardship he faced as an orphan. His father died when he was 4 years old and his mother struggled hard to raise him and his siblings. He also slept empty stomach as a child. When he sees hungry people on road, they remind him of his past hence he started the free-food camp, where more than 350 people are fed.

With the ‘Do Roti’ campaign, Azhar hopes that no poor person would go to sleep hungry anywhere in the country. While other people celebrate Valentine’s Day, Children’s day etc, Azhar wants to celebrate ‘no hunger day’ for the rest of his life.
With some of Azhar’s friends abroad joining in to make the campaign a success, more than 15,000 people have distributed rotis under this campaign to poor people across the country, claimed Azhar.
