Ahead of World Biryani Day on July 2, food delivery platform Swiggy revealed that Hyderabadis had placed over 72 lakh orders for the trademark dish in the last six months, and over 1.5 crore biryani orders in the last 12 months.
In the last five-and-a-half months, there has been a growth of 8.39 per cent in biryani orders in the city compared to the same period in 2022.
Dum biryani emerged the undisputed champion with over 9 lakh orders followed by biryani rice with 7.9 lakh orders, and mini biryani with over
5.2 lakh orders.
Hyderabad has more than 15,000 restaurants offering biryani on their menus. Kukatpally, Madhapur, Ameerpet, Banjara Hills, Kothapet and Dilsukhnagar are the areas with the highest concentration of biryani-serving restaurants.
In terms of volume, Kukatpally takes the lead position followed by Madhapur, Banjara Hills, Gachibowli and Kondapur. These are based on an analysis of orders placed on Swiggy till June 15 this year, a release said.
