A multi-storied building allegedly constructed illegally at Ayyappa Society at Madhapur was demolished by HYDRAA on Sunday. The demolition of the building was done by the DRF and Revenue authorities under tight police bandobust.

According to HYDRAA Commissioner, AV Ranganath, the High Court had earlier directed GHMC to demolish the illegal building and the corporation as a practice had made some holes on the slab and left it. “The builder closed the holes and went ahead with seven floors illegal construction. A contempt petition was also moved in the High Court and is under process,” he said.

He said

almost all constructions in Ayyappa society were illegal and the HYDRAA will start with at least demolishing constructions on which High Court has given clear directions. “Several students, employees are staying in these illegal structures. It is a very pathetic state of affairs in this area,” Ranganath said.

The HYDRAA will review these constructions with GHMC and work in coordination to address the mushrooming of illegal constructions in Ayyappa society. A report on the officers responsible for permitting the illegal construction of the presently demolished building will also be sent to the government for action, he added.
