HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath conducted a field inspection of lakes near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) after receiving complaints from residents about encroachments. The commissioner inspected Tautanikunta and Bhagirathamma lakes near Nanakramguda, and Neknampur lake in Narsingi, and expressed anger over illegal constructions blocking floodwater canals and diverting the flow of rainwater.
The commissioner ordered the revenue, irrigation, GHMC, and HMDA officials to submit a detailed report within a week. At Maulana Azad National Urdu University, residents complained that blocked water channels caused floodwater to enter their apartments. They also reported that the canal
linking Tautanikunta to Bhagirathamma lake has been severed. Many people met the commissioner, claiming ownership of properties close to the lakes, to which Ranganath asked them to bring proper documents to show their ownership, and after analysis they will take a decision.
He emphasised using rural maps, National Remote Sensing Agency data, and Survey of India maps to ensure accurate analysis, and assured residents that they will conduct a thorough review to resolve the issues. Residents suggested restoring the natural water flow from the university’s open land to Tautanikunta and Bhagirathamma lakes to mitigate the flooding problems.
