The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Wednesday removed encroachments to clear roads in Hyderabad. The action came after complaints were made that people were building walls to stop others from accessing the pathways. In Medchal-Malkajgiri district,

HYDRAA removed a wall built by residents of the NRI Colony under Kapra municipality blocking traffic. After the wall was removed, four nearby colonies - Senior Citizen Colony, Shanti Villas, Lakshmi Villas, and Gowri Nathapuram – got better access to roads. Earlier, residents had to drive 3 km to reach the main road to Dammaiguda, which has come down to 100 metres only.

Officials from Kapra municipality promised to quickly lay roads in the cleared areas.

HYDRAA also removed another wall near Rallaguda village in Shamshabad Mandal which was blocking access to the Outer Ring Road. In Sainikpuri, Malkajgiri Circle, a 50-metre-long wall that blocked entry to the Army Officers' Colony was also taken down, allowing free movement.

In Malkajgiri, HYDRAA acted on complaints about a 1200 sq yards of public land in Survey No. 218/1, Defence Colony, being illegally sold. After checking, HYDRAA and local officials found that some plots had been sold while others were still controlled by private owners. The land was cleared of encroachments and declared a public property, meant for everyone to use. Sign Boards were put up to show that it is now under HYDRAA’s care.
