IKEA Hyderabad store to open on July 19

The world’s largest furniture retailer, IKEA launching its first store in India, in Hyderabad on July 19.

The IKEA, the first MNC to announce its investment in Hyderabad after Telangana State came into existence, will provide a unique experiential shopping opportunity with its largest store offering more than 7500 products at what is being termed as “extremely reasonable prices”. 

IKEA has invested about Rs 1000 crore in the Hyderabad unit and the company will source upto 20 per cent of the products from the local manufacturers. The products have been researched and made to suit the Indian needs, Ikea’s India CEO Peter Betzel told a select group of journalists at the Ikea store on



Tuesday.

The IKEA teams have visited several Indian homes to understand the needs and came up with different products which are specific to Indian needs and not available in IKEA stores in other countries, John Achillea, Ikea MD of Hyderabad store said. “Our concept is that no visitor should go without buying anything from the store”, Achillea said underlining efforts that went into planning of the store and products.

The store will be open seven days a week and has a 1000-seater restaurant to ensure that those who come to the store spend considerable time in choosing the products. The store will have around 1000 strong staff and fifty percent of them would be women.
