Heavy rains are likely to lash Hyderabad and the rest of the districts over the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday . Met experts attributed it to a low pressure area building over the north-west Bay of Bengal and an upper air circulation over Telangana.
While the state has been witnessing scattered low-intensity rainfall over the past two days, flash showers and thunderstorms are expected in isolated areas of Telangana. “There is no way of determining the areas where the thunderstorm might occur as the radar positioned takes the Nowcast, which
is a forecast only three hours prior to the episode,“ said YK Reddy , IMD in-charge for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Met experts said that with the formation of another cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal, which is moving westwards towards Odisha and West Bengal, the state is expected to witness rainfall for at least 10 more days.
“We are still in the monsoon season and have gone down from 27% to 13% rain deficit in the state, which is close to the normal seasonal average,“ YK Reddy said.
