The India Meteorological Department recorded gale to be at a speed of 78 kmph on Monday evening in Hyderabad. The weather changes happened very fast and as officials pointed out, conditions like cloud formation, thunderstorms and lightning can form within 15 minutes and not prevail for more than 2 hours.
During pre-monsoon season, there would be heating of land and whenever sufficient moisture is available, instability happens in the atmosphere and
subsequently, clouds (Cumulonimbus) develop, officials said. “Whenever, updraft increases, the intensity of wind may become severe. On downdraft, the wind along with rain drops reach the ground at a speed of 80 to 90 kmph from the clouds,” said a IMD official
Followng an upper air trough light to moderate thunderstorms and rains may occur in isolated parts of the State, officials said.
