Telangana Government today reiterated that the Centre take initiative to increase Assembly seats in the state as per Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act from 119 to 153. Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma wrote a letter to Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and urged him to take steps to increase the Assembly seats as expeditiously as possible.

Sharma said that Telagnana state was formed on

 in 2014 and in order to strengthen the democratic institutions and to provide social justice to the people the Centre may initiate action to place the issue with Election Commission of India he said. It was envisaged in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act to increase the Assembly seats in two Telugu states and in AP from 175 to 225 seats. The Centre may take steps and Parliament as per law procedures and the Election commission determine the delimitation of the constituencies a release said.
