New Delhi: India's largest floating solar power plant is set to come up in Ramagundam in Peddapalli district of Telangana. The solar plant with a capacity of 100 Mega Watt is being constructed by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The plant will be opened in a phased manner with the initial launch of 15 MW by July end. Citing officials, a report in The Hindu said that the NTPC will commission around 10 to 15 MW plants every month.
The 100 MW solar project is being constructed at a water reserviour.
Let's us take a look at five interesting facts of the mega solar project.
The solar power project is being built at a cost of Rs 423 crore. NTPC-Ramagundam
project will be largest floating solar plant in India in a single location.
The solar panels of the power plant expected to cover 450 acres of area. The solar project will have 4.5 lakh photovoltaic panels.
The project would have been completed by now had there not been a delay due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally, the power plant was to be commissioned in one go, but COVID restrictions affected the project and it will now be opened in phases.
The current project is part of NTPC's plans to install 60 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2032. In 2020, NTPC signed an MoU with International Solar Alliance (ISA) for implementing solar energy projects in 47 member countries of ISA.
