The inauguration of the steel bridge between Indira Park and VST junction, which was supposed to have been done by now, has further been postponed to July-end.

The 2.62-km-long steel bridge, coming up at a cost of 426 crore, will have a four-lane passage.

Engineers associated with the project claimed that more than 95 per cent of the bridge is completed and only the portion above Metro Rail at Charminar corssroads remains pending.

According to a senior official of the project, Dev Anand, "The bridge is complete. Three of six girders have been fixed. On completion of the other three, work on the

concrete slab will begin and after a fortnight’s curing, the bridge should be ready by July-end."

He said, "The delay has been because of time restrictions imposed by Hyderabad Metro Rail. Apart from that, a lot of special security precautions need to be taken."

Once it is launched, the steel bridge will come as a major relief to the movements of local residents and shops, which lost business in the last two years, because the stretch has been barricaded.

Moreover, this will end huge traffic congestions in the densely populated adjoining colonies.
