The first infertility centre in a government hospital in the country was launched at the state-run Gandhi Hospital in the city on Thursday. A total of 60 patients have already enrolled for infertility treatment at the centre.
Hospital authorities said they used to receive a minimum of 15-20 patients who were
diverted to private centres. “The private centres charge heavily for fertility treatment, which makes it affordable only for some segments of the society. The state government therefore decided on this centre,” said Dr C Laxma Reddy, minister for health and family welfare during the centre’s inauguration.
