Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha accused both the BJP-led Centre and the Congress-led Telangana government of failing to secure national project status for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project (PRLIP).
In a post on X, she accused the two national parties of failing Telangana, saying, "8 BJP MPs + 8 Congress MPs = Rs 0 for Telangana."
Slamming the Centre, she called the exclusion of PRLIP “yet another blatant act of discrimination” and part of a “long history of marginalisation.”
She alleged that Telangana has faced neglect since its formation, with unfair budget allocations and project denials.
Kavitha claimed that despite multiple appeals, the Centre has deliberately excluded PRLIP from receiving national recognition. She also criticised the Revnath Reddly-led Congress government, stating that it has not strongly advocated for Telangana’s interests in Delhi.
Highlighting former Chief
Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) efforts, she pointed out that he made over 30 representations to the Union Government regarding the issue.
She demanded that the state government take a firm stand and ensure Telangana gets its due share at the Centre.
Responding to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Rajbhushan Choudhary had stated that PRLIP cannot be granted national status until the Krishna water allocations are finalized by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II (KWDT-II).
Congress MLC Venkat Balmoori hit back at Kavitha, accusing the BRS and BJP of being “one and the same.” He pointed out that the BRS government had signed an agreement in 2015 during the KRMB Tribunal, accepting a 66:34 Krishna river water share, where Telangana received only 34 per cent. "Now, the Congress government is demanding 71 per cent, yet BRS is questioning us," he said, claiming that the previous BRS government did little for Telangana.
