A 400 kilowatts peak (kWp) ongrid solar plant has come up at Kachiguda railway station, which has become the first energy efficient station in the Indian railways.The plant was installed by a Gurgaon-based firm M/s Renew Solar Energy Private Ltd, at a cost of Rs.3 crore, rail officials told.
About 320 watt peak (WP) solar panels have been installed on roofs
of platforms 1, 2, 3. They will generate about 1,644 units of electricity a day and save six lakh units worth Rs.21.66 lakh every year. Currently, Kacheguda gets electricity from discom at Rs.8.60 per unit, while the solar panel will slash the cost by Rs.3.61 per unit. “It will reduce carbon emission by 480 metric tons a year,” said a SCR official.
