Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao said the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, in addition to addressing the irrigation needs in the State, can also boost the drinking water supply to Hyderabad.
The Minister was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Phase 2 Project. “Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir and Mallanna Sagar reservoir have provision for drinking water, this water can be used for Hyderabad,”he said.
Presently water to Hyderabad is being supplied from Ramagundam-Godavari and Sunkishala- Krishna. The Minister said, “But if the water is also supplied through the Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir and Mallanna Sagar which are
near to Hyderabad, issues pertaining to drinking water in the city and vicinity will be addressed permanently.”
He also said that nearly Rs 6,000 crore was accorded by the State government to provide drinking water in the areas located outside Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and within Outer Ring Road, following which several projects were taken up to enhance drinking water supplies.
The Minister also said that the State government’s schemes including Mission Bhagiratha and Rythu Bandhu have turned out to be a role model for the Government of India and they are being replicated by the Central government.
