Annaram and Sudilla barrages as part of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) by July-end will lift water from Godavari and take it up to Yellampally reservoir, irrigation minister Harish Rao said on Monday.
Another barrage at Medigadda will be ready by January 1, 2019, he said.
Addressing the national media at underground pumping station (package 8) at Laxmipur village on Monday, the minister said the first result of the Kaleshwaram project would materialise in another 45 days.
The state government is trying to get national status to the project or financial assistance for KLIP that is being taken up at a cost of Rs 80,000 crore. Till date, the state government has spent about Rs 35,000 crore on KLIP. Chief minister K
Chandrasekhar Rao met PM Narendra Modi and urged him to grant Rs 20,000 crore to the project, he said.
Explaining that the state government wants to prove to the entire nation and set an example in completing irrigation projects, he said:
“Construction of irrigation projects takes at least a decade or several years. But TRS wants to prove that it can be done in a few months.”
A total of 18 pumphouses are being readied, including a gigantic underground pumphouse, being constructed at Laxmipur by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) ensure backwater and storage of Godavari water for 365 days covering a distance of 100-110 km with a width of 2 km storage.
