Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has in principle agreed to supply drinking water for Tamil Nadu in consultation with the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy from a perennial and assured source. This assurance came in response to a request from a delegation of Ministers and officers of Tamil Nadu Government which called on Chandrashekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday.
The Chief Minister suggested to the delegation to send a formal proposal from Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu requesting him and also AP Chief Minister in that regard. He further suggested that soon after receiving the proposal there should be a meeting among the three states at officers’ and experts’ level to prepare a report based on the discussions to proceed further. “Let the officers come to a consensus for taking a final decision.
As and when this materializes, let India learn through this as to how states can cooperate with each other,” K
Chandrashekhar Rao said.
Chandrashekhar Rao had then called his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Jaganmohan Reddy and conveyed the request of Tamil Nadu delegation. He also suggested to him that in principle it could be agreed to provide drinking water to Tamil Nadu. He urged the AP Chief Minister to extend cooperation to Tamilnadu as suffering of that State with regard to drinking water is a known fact.
The delegation from Tamil Nadu consisted of Ministers SP Velumani and D Jayakumar and Secretary PWD Dr K Manivasan and Advisor Dr M Sheelapriya. Ministers KT Rama Rao, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Principal Secretary Irrigation Rajat Kumar, CMO officers S Narsing Rao, Smitha Sabharval, OSD to CM Sridhar Rao Deshpande, Engineer in Chief Muralidhar Rao and CE Interstate water Narasimha Rao were present in the meeting with the Tamilnadu delegation.
