Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has permitted Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to draw the allocated water from Singur and Manjeera reservoirs to Hyderabad and Secunderabad and enroute villages for drinking purpose.
As per the allocation of 120 million gallons of water per day (MGD), 75 MGD of would be drawn from Singur and 45 MGD from Manjeera from this week, HMWS&SB managing director M Dana Kishore said. After gap of nearly five years, Singur and Manjeera reservoirs are filled near to full capacity levels. Drawing water from these two sources will save `15 crore per month to HMWS&SB’s power bills.
During a recent review meeting, officials explained to the CM about the need of drawing water from these two reservoirs as drawing from Akkampally,

Krishna and Yellampally has become a costly affair as they require four stage pumping which is costing the HMWS&SB an amount of `45 to `50 crore per month towards power bills and Board is not in a position to shell out such huge amount for electricity bills.
On trial run, HMWS&SB started drawing some 18-20 MGD of water to city since Monday. By the end of this week, 120 MGD would be drawn, Dana Kishore said.
HMWS&SB would reduce quantities from Krishna and Godavari up to 120 MGD to maintain 355 MGD supplies to GHMC limits. The HMWS&SB also plans to draw 5 MGD of water from Osmansagar as against 20 MGD till next summer and there is no proposal to draw water from Himayatsagar till March/April 2017 as there are no inflows into these reservoirs despite incessant rains.
