Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday ordered free reverification and recounting of answer sheets of all students who failed in this year’s Intermediate examinations. The Chief Minister’s order will directly help 3.28 lakh students who failed in these examinations.
In the case of students who have passed the examination but still want recounting or reverification of their answer sheets, it will be done on payment of the fee as per prevailing norms and regulations, he said.
The Chief Minister issued these orders at a high-level review meeting at Pragati Bhavan on the issues of evaluation of Intermediate examination papers, declaration of results, and the events that took place subsequent to declaration of results.
“This year, 9.74 lakh students appeared for the Intermediate examination. Of these, 3.28 lakhs failed. Some students and their parents are of the opinion that mistakes occurred in counting of marks and evaluation resulting in marks lower than what they expected resulting in some of them failing,” he said.
Chandrashekhar Rao said the reverification and recounting process be expedited and completed as early as possible. In view of the fact that the students will be appearing for NEET and JEE exams, the advanced supplementary examinations should be conducted
at the earliest as also declaration of results of the supplementary exams, he said. The responsibility of these tasks was entrusted to Education Secretary B Janardhan Reddy.
He also instructed the officers to evolve a strategy for smooth conduct of examinations and evaluation without any problems for future.
“The government,” the Chief Minister said, “is facing problems every time Intermediate examinations and EAMCET are conducted resulting in headaches for the government, students and their parents.”
Declaring that this situation must change, Chandrashekhar Rao asked officials to examine whether it was possible to entrust the responsibility of conducting examinations to an autonomous body. “We should look at the best practices in other States and in other countries which can then be implemented in our State. Examinations that will be held in future should be problem-free and the process to ensure this must begin now,” Chandrashekhar Rao said.
The meeting was attended by Education Minister G Jagadeesh Reddy, Education Secretary Dr. B Janardhan Reddy, Secretary, Board of Intermediate Education Dr. A Ashok, Chief Advisor to the government Rajiv Sharma and officials in the Chief Minister’s Office, Rajashekar Reddy and Bhoopal Reddy.
