Conserving every drop of water in Telangana through irrigation projects was possible only for Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who worked as a social, political and field engineer in redesigning the irrigation projects to provide water to agricultural fields in the State, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said here on Sunday. The ideas which emerged after thinking from peoples’ point of view, would create wonders and the classic example was the construction of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), he said.
Speaking at the fifth Telangana Irrigation Day celebrations organised by the State government and Telangana State Centre of Institution of Engineers to commemorate the 82nd birth anniversary of Waterman of Telangana R Vidyasagar Rao here, the Minister said necessity of the people in the State were the cause of several innovative measures by the State
government.
Niranjan Reddy said every government gives priority to certain departments during its term. While the Irrigation department was given its due importance during last term, the Agriculture department was now being given similar significance, he added.
He said Vidyasagar Rao used to be friendly with everyone irrespective of their age. The Minister later presented awards to the engineers for their outstanding performance in the irrigation sector.
Jagtiyal Chief Engineer K Sudhakar Reddy, Inter-State Water Resource Wing Chief Engineer R Koteshwara Rao and Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme Deputy Executive Engineer M Neelima were among those who received awards.
TRS MLA G Kishore Kumar, OSD to Chief Minister (Irrigation) Sridhar Rao Deshpande and other dignitaries were present.
