Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will kick-start the State government’s ambitious flagship programme ‘Telanganaku Haritha Haram’ in Gajwel town on August 1 when a massive plantation drive of 1,00,116 saplings will be taken up on a single day. Besides this, the Chief Minister has instructed that 20,000 more saplings should be planted in forest lands on the same day. Peoples’ representatives, officials, police, students, women, youth, businessmen and common people should take part in the plantation programme to plant 1,00,116 saplings, he said, at a review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan here on Wednesday.

“Saplings are to be planted on either side of the roads, in the premises of public and private institutions, in temples, masjids, churches as well as in every house simultaneously the same day,” he said, adding that the

programme should be taken up on a large scale with peoples’ participation. He also called for a massive campaign to be taken up to make it a grand success.

Stating that the required saplings for this programme should be kept ready well in advance besides digging pits, Chandrashekhar Rao said the saplings to be distributed to the people should necessarily be fruit-bearing and flowering plants. “At the appointed time on August 1, the programmed siren should be sounded simultaneously in all the masjids in Gajwel. Immediately on hearing the sound of the siren, everyone should plant a sapling wherever they are. People should be educated adequately on this programme through public address system, wall writings and hoardings, among other forms of the campaign,” the Chief Minister said.
