Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has urged the Centre to offer a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 crore for implementation of Mission Kakatiya – a flagship program for revival of lakes, water bodies and ponds. The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to give necessary funding for developing backward districts in the new State of Telangana.
In a letter addressed to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the Chief Minister sought financial help for the lakes revival program, which is aimed at conservation of waters and to increase ground water table. KCR reminded that the NITI Ayog had recommended financial assistance of Rs 5000-cr from the Centre for
the lakes revival program for next three years in Telangana. The aim of the lakes revival program by the State is similar to that of the schemes of conservation of waters and to increase ground water table by Union Water Resources Ministry across the nation, KCR stated.
The Chief Minister also apprised Jaitley of the lakes revival scheme and its progress and targets being achieved. “We have taken up the lakes revival program and water schemes in a prestigious manner and they were nearing completion. He also urged the Centre to extend help for the backward districts in the infant State of Telangana as per AP Reorganization Act, he said. The CM also said he had already sought Rs 30,571-cr Central assistance for the Mission Bhagiratha for providing drinking water to villagers and lakes revival under Mission Kakatiya which is being lauded by many States.
