Union Minister Kishan Reddy released a special postal cover marking the completion of nine years of Telangana as a state, along with a special postcard depicting Buddhist heritage of Bavapur Kurru in Karimnagar district.

Speaking at the function at Dak Sadan, office of the Chief Postmaster in Abids, Kishan Reddy said the special postal cover and the postcard reflected Telangana’s history and culture. "I hope that the postal department will continue highlighting the state’s historical and cultural facets in a similar manner in future. The release of the special postal cover is also a tribute to all those who made sacrifices for the formation of Telangana," he said.

He said that after Modi

became Prime Minister, 5,796 post offices in Telangana were modernized at a cost of Rs 7,489 crore, and 17,000 employees were providing postal services.

"As part of expanding services, passport services have been extended to 16 post offices in the state, along with providing Aadhaar services in 266 post offices. The Prime Minister's idea was to convert post offices into one stop services and we have been doing that," he said.

Life certificates have been issued through post offices to 96,000 pensioners, even as people can now pay their electricity, cooking gas bills, and even recharge their mobile phone accounts from post offices, he added.
