The International Kite Festival by Telangana government will be held at Parade Grounds instead of Aga Khan Academy for Sankranti 2018, and will be organised entirely by the Tourism Department.
Moreover, a grand interstate sweet festival, a larger crafts mela and a night kite flying programme will be held at the same venue, according to tourism officials. The three-day kite festival is scheduled to be hosted on January 13, 14 and 15.
Officials said the footfall at the festival is expected to go up three times because of the venue change, and
preparations are being made to accommodate about one lakh visitors in total.“The government wants to make the kite festival more accessible, and has hence decided to host it at Parade Grounds. Also, Aga Khan Academy will not be hosting the festival this year, but will be a knowledge partner for Telangana Tourism,” said Tourism Commissioner Sunita Bhagwat.
Meanwhile, a mammoth sweet festival, the first of its kind in Hyderabad, will be hosted at the Parade Grounds for kite festival visitors, Tourism Secretary Burra Venkatesham said.
