The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has ordered release of 52 tmcft of water to Nagarjunasagar project from Srisailam to meet the water requirements of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
KRMB member-secretary A Paramesham on Friday issued the orders for release of water after considering the indents on requirement of both the states and levels at Srisailam. Srisailam had 83 tmcft of water on Friday, Sagar dam had 2 tmcft.
Paramesham said 2 tmcft of water should be released from July 28 till August 22 (26 days) from Srisailam to Sagar preferably through powerhouses so as to generate hydel generation. In case there is no power demand, water may be released though river sluices, the official said in his
order.
According to officials, both the states submitted indents on Thursday.
The Telangana government sought 10 tmcft from Srisailam for Kalwakurthy lift irrigation canal and 6 tmcft for drinking water requirements for Hyderabad and Nalgonda, 2 tmcft for Mission Bhagiratha and 12 tmcft to Nagajunasagar left canal from Sagar project
KRMB authorities said the release through Sagar left canal may be made to meet the requirement of both the states simultaneously to minimise the losses. “Chief engineer of irrigation, AP, should furnish the schedule to CE of Nagarjunasagar project, Telangana, for better coordination,” the member-secretary said.
