Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday said measures were being taken to launch 44 new Basthi Dawakhanas for offering quality treatment to the poor and needy. These would be in addition to the existing 123 Basthi Dawakhanas.
Addressing a review meeting here, the Minister, along with Health Minister Eatala Rajender, reviewed the measures on containing seasonal diseases in the city during the monsoon season.
He instructed officials to take up extensive fogging operations, besides intensifying spraying of sodium hypochlorite to fight seasonal diseases. Officials were told to to focus on high-risk areas and intensify anti-larval operations in such areas. A total of 2,412 members from the GHMC entomology team were taking up anti-larval operations and fogging activities by using 2,200 machines.
Rama Rao instructed zonal commissioners to
take stock of the situation in their respective divisions by involving public representatives and corporators and arrange for additional fogging machines to take up anti-larval spraying once in every five days and five phases in a month.
To ensure proper coordination among different departments, the Minister directed the officials to convene convergence meetings at the municipal circle level in the city. Instructions were issued to higher authorities to increase the spending capacity of Deputy Commissioners for initiating measures swiftly during emergencies.
The Health Minister appreciated the Municipal department officials and staff for their relentless work along with health department officials in the last two months. He also appreciated KT Rama Rao for proactively preparing the officials to handle works in the upcoming monsoon season.
