Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao directed the District Collectors to initiate measures for constructing 4,696 smart washrooms in all the municipal corporations and municipalities in the State by August 15.

These smart washrooms will be categorised into public toilets, She toilets and Community toilets and District Collectors were directed to finalise the standard schedule of rates for taking up the works.

Already many facilities were being arranged in municipalities and municipal corporations as part of the Pattana Pragathi programme taken up by the State government. Under this initiative, instructions have been issued to construct 4696



smart washrooms by August 15 for the convenience of citizens.

To this effect, 23 designs have been finalised and MA&UD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar issued orders to officials construct the smart washrooms as per the local conditions and design feasibility in their respective areas.

Excluding Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, 7,685 public toilets were required in the 139 urban local bodies across the State as per the 2011 population census.

Already, 2,989 public toilets are in place and now measures were being taken up to construct the 4696 public toilets on war footing basis, said a press release.
