Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday directed the officials to increase efforts to improve sanitation in the respective urban local bodies, in coordination with the Health department. Besides expediting road repairs and maintenance, the Municipal authorities were also directed to ensure all Rs 5 meal centres or Annapurna Food Centres are kept open.
In a teleconference with the officials here, the Minister asked the officials to make best use of lockdown time and take up road repair and maintenance works on a warfooting basis. Considering the trying times of labourers and workers from unorganised sectors in urban areas, he asserted that the Annapurna Food Centres must be kept open for them.
However, he wanted the officials to take necessary measures and
ensure that the food centres are not crowded. The officials were asked to pick up the homeless and shift them to nightshelters, besides tracking all those who have been directed to undergo home quarantine.
Rama Rao who also holds the portfolio of IT and Industry departments, asked the officials concerned to take up sanitation works in Industrial and IT Parks on a regular basis with an action plan. He asked the internet service providers to increase their respective network capacity to meet surge in demand with ‘Work From Home’. Further, the companies have been instructed to ensure payment of salaries/wages to contract labour and dailywage workers without fail. They have been suggested to use Corporation Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for anti-Corona efforts.
