IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday extended the time for fixing up the meters through empanelled agencies to claim 20,000 litres free water scheme to April end.

The last date for fixing up meters was March 31. Rama Rao announced this while responding to a question posed by the MLC MS Prabhakar Rao in Telangana Legislative Council here. Rama Rao said 95 per cent of the connections excluding commercial connections would be benefited with the scheme which is linked to Aadhaar.

He said the customers can fix up meters from the 24 empanelled agencies and



added that the State government would be spending Rs.500 crore for the scheme and every paise utilised under the scheme was accountable.

The people especially women in united Andhra Pradesh used to stage protests at the office of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board during every summer demanding supply of drinking water.

But the situation has now changed with water being supplied to all the households without any interruption, Rama Rao said recalling water was supplied through railway tankers in Chennai and Latur.
