The incessant rains, which began on Monday night, continued for the third day, drenching the city’s normal life on Wednesday. Municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao, held a meeting to review the city’s preparedness in the wake of heavy rains.
Officials assured that they are geared up to handle such adverse situations. There will not be any flooding in the GHMC region as nalas have been strengthened as part of Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP), they pointed out.
The minister called for prioritising prevention of loss of life besides reducing the damage-causing impact of rains and ensuring public safety. He wanted a coordinated effort
involving departments like electricity, revenue and traffic police and HMWSSB.
Officials pointed out that all preventive measures were in place. Dewatering pumps have been placed in low-lying areas and arterial roads which were prone to flooding.
The minister also discussed about sanitation management. Officials suggested immediate and short-term measures to address all sanitation related issues.
The high-level meeting was attended by Arvind Kumar, special chief secretary MA&UD, D. Ronald Rose, commissioner GHMC, the civic body’s deputy commissioners and others.
