Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday inaugurated the 2BHK housing units block at Old Marredpally here.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the dwellings being provided as part of State government’s flagship 2BHK housing initiative, would become enduring symbols of self-respect for the poorer sections of the society.
Spread over a 5.18 acre site, the housing cluster has 468 dwellings with each of the house units built with 560 sft at a cost of Rs.7.75 lakh.
Rama Rao said the 5.18 acre land parcel worth around Rs 350 crore was transferred to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to built these housing units in 22 blocks at a total cost of Rs.36.27 crore and provide to the beneficiaries without charging a paisa.
Pointing out that the Dignity Housing taken up by the Telangana government was one of its kind project not done anywhere else in the country, the Minister
said, “It is the large heartedness of our Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao that saw him saying that irrespective of costs involved, every poor family should be helped to realise the dream of having a house of their own.”
Around 2.72 lakh 2BHK houses were being built with a cost of Rs.18,000 crore to be handed over to the eligible beneficiaries. “On seeing these houses, people in other States are wishing that they too had a Chief Minister like ours,” he said.
Animal Husbandry Minister T.Srinivas Yadav said a double bedroom in this area would cost anywhere up to Rs.1.2 crore. The beneficiaries here will also have no water bills and though it is located in Cantonment limits under the union government, the State government has decided to extend all possible benefits, he said.
Ministers Ch Malla Reddy and Mahmood Ali along with Mayor G.Vijayalaxmi and others were present on the occasion.
