Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday inspected the progress of steel bridge works at Punjagutta and directed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to complete the bridge in a month.
The municipal corporation has taken up the bridge works with a cost of about Rs.23 crore to facilitate easy flow of traffic. As part of the works, the carriageway on either side of the road at the crematorium at Nagarjuna circle is also being widened.
The minister along with Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary, Arvind Kumar and other senior officials inspected the girder installation works at the site yesterday.
Making use of lockdown and traffic-free
roads, the contractor has deployed more men and machinery at the site and is executing the works the round the clock.
Nearly 50 per cent works pertaining to the steel bridge, widening the carriageway on either side of the road have been completed, GHMC Chief Engineer R. Sridhar informed the minister.
Complimenting GHMC and contractors, the Rao directed the officials to adopt more precautionary measures and deploy advanced machinery, said a press release.
Once completed, the bridge will facilitate in easing traffic congestion at Nagarjuna circle, which is among the high traffic zones in the city. Due to narrow carriageway, vehicle movement invariably slows down at the circle.
