Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao said that the State Government would ensure daily water supply to Hyderabad if there was good monsoon next year.

Replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy during Question Hour in Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday, the minister claimed that the drinking water problem has been completely resolved after the formation of Telangana.

He said no area in the city faced shortage of drinking water during the last two summer seasons. He said presently drinking water is being supplied to nearly 150 localities on daily basis.

Stating that there was an increase in demand for supply of drinking water in the city, he said in March 2016 about 352 Mgd water was supplied and this year the demand has increased by 20 Mgd. He said two new reservoirs of 20 TMC capacity each were being constructed on Hyderabad’s outskirts to improve the supply of drinking water in city and its outskirts.

He said that the Godavari Water Supply Scheme starts from Murmur at Yellampally barrage and passes through Bommakal (pumping station) in Karimnagar district and through Mallaram (WTP) and Kopadaka (pumping station) in Siddipet district and reservoir at Ghanpur in Medchal district for

a total length of 186 Kms.

“There is an existing practice to provide bulk water supply to RWS Department for the drinking water requirements of enroute Gram Panchayats and municipalities along the source transmission schemes,” he said.

From the Manjeera, Singoor and Krishna water supply schemes, several bulk water supplies were provided to the enroute areas to RWS department as bulk customers of HMWSSB who will pay the water cess as per HMWSSB tariff.

On similar lines, at the request of RWS department, the water supply is also provided from Godavari scheme to the enroute municipalities of Gajwel and Siddipet as bulk customers of HMWSSB who will pay the water cess as per the HMWSSB norms.
