Caretaker Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao on Tuesday assured disabled persons that he would discuss with the Chief Minister to revive the Disabled Welfare programme which was currently functioning as an integral part of the Women and Child Welfare department. He suggested it should function as an independent department and work exclusively for the welfare of the disabled in the city.
Addressing a disabled persons meet at Jalavihar of the city, KTR said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would increase the pension for disabled people to Rs 3016 after December
11.
Maintaining that the TRS’s aim was to increase the revenue and distribute it among the poor, he said Telangana was the only state in the country which spent 43 per cent of the state’s revenue for the welfare of the poor through 453 schemes. He said that the TRS government had stood first in disabled welfare and it had also received an award from the Centre.
Promising to increase the budget for disabled welfare after regaining power, K T Rama Rao said that Mission Bhagiratha would be completed by the end of this month.
