Karimnagar: IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao will inaugurate the Karimnagar IT Tower on Tuesday, besides inaugurating a daily water supply scheme taken up at a cost of Rs 110 crore, BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar announced here on Sunday.

Kamalakar visited the IT tower and water filter bed to inspect the arrangements. The IT Tower was built at a cost of Rs 34 crore near Ujwala park downstream of Lower Manair Dam in the city outskirts, and is part of the State government’s efforts to take the IT sector to Tier 2 cities in the State to provide employment to local talent. Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for the tower on January 8, 2018.

Though officials had planned to inaugurate the tower on January 30 and February 18, it was postponed due to municipal elections and subsequent spread of coronavirus. Karimnagar IT Tower, the first tower to take off with the highest employees’ occupancy rate of 30 to 40 per cent. About 400 employees will work at the time of inauguration. About 3,000 to 3,600 youths are set to get employment and 80 per cent of the jobs will



be filled with candidates from Karimnagar and neighbouring districts, and 40 class four jobs will go to people from Karimnagar.

Attracted by the incentives offered by the State government, 26 companies approached the administration to set up their units in the IT Tower. Of them, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been entered into with 12 companies and space was allocated to 15 companies. Out of 72,000 square feet area including 12,000 sqf cellar space, 60,000 sqf area has been utilized for office purposes. There is a learning centre in the ground floor and office on the first floor.

Space for IT firms is allocated from the second floor to fifth floor. Two office spaces are kept empty for multinational companies such as HCL and one another, a district officer said.

Spaces have been allocated to firms with a condition to enhance employment in the coming one year period. Based on the performance of the tower, another IT tower will also be established. For the purpose, three acres of land is also kept available.
