A new fleet of special vehicles and equipment of the GHMC’s Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) wing meant for use during heavy rains and emergency situations is to be launched by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday.
The EVDM has procured eight vehicles and 11 different types of equipment like generators, rope ladders, fire extinguishers etc. Apart from the colourful vehicles, the personnel of the wing too have been provided with exclusive uniforms.
To ensure effective work
during emergency situations, personnel are being roped in from police, engineering, fire services and other departments on deputation, said a senior official from GHMC.
Already, 44 electrical workers, who have been allocated to EVDM have been trained at Indira Park to help them get acquainted with the usage of different equipment, he said.
All the personnel are trained in handling axes, fire extinguishers and other equipment and the procedure to be followed during rescue and relief operations.
