Warangal: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the South Korean firm Young One Company at the Kakatiya mega textile park (KMTP) in Geesukonda mandal of Parkal constituency on Saturday.
KMTP, a prestigious initiative of the state government that was inaugurated on October 22, 2017, is burdened with several problems. The government had established the Rs 366-crore park by acquiring around 1,350 acres of land from farmers; it was aimed at providing employment to around 1.5 lakh locals.
When laying the foundation stone for the park, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had assured that one job would be provided to each family whose land was acquired along with Rs 9.5 lakh compensation and a house site.
Congress’ Parkal assembly segment in-charge E. Venkatram Reddy, while speaking to Deccan Chronicle, alleged that the government had failed to honour three promises made initially.
Two companies that were housed in the park were manufacturing
threads using huge amounts of chemicals and recycled water, soft drink and pet bottles and plastic covers, he alleged. Contractors were transporting sand and gravel illegally from SRSP for carrying out road, drainage and culvert works without paying the relevant fee to the government.
He alleged RTI queries on the number of MoUs signed with KMTP and details of investments did not receive any response.
TSIIC zonal manager R. Santosh Kumar clarified that the government had signed MoUs with 22 companies, which set up their branches in KMTP.
He condemned allegations that the government has not taken any steps to keep a check on pollution. He said the units that were functional had established treatment plants.
Representatives of the companies that are within KMTP said that they preferred outsiders instead of giving opportunities to locals as those from outside are capable of tolerating adverse conditions at the workplace.
