KTR wants officials to speed up rehabilitation works in Sircilla

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao instructed officials to speed up relief and rehabilitation activities since flood water was stranded in Sircilla town. Different localities in the town were submerged by flood water due to incessant rains during the last three days.

Knowing about the incident, the Minister on Tuesday interacted with Collector Anurag Jayanthi, Superintendent of Police Rahul Hegde and Municipal Commissioner Sammaiah through teleconference to discuss the rain situation in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao instructed officials to establish rehabilitation centers and shift the people staying in low lying areas to centers. Informing to send Disaster Response Force to Sircilla, the Minister advised administration to take steps to divert flood water since rains are predicted to continue for 48 hours.

People need not worry since the district administration was ready to take up relief and rehabilitation activities.

On Tuesday, the DRF teams equipped with vehicles, boats, pumps and portable lighting systems were pressed into service in Sircilla on the instructions of Municipal Administration Urban Development (MAUD) Minister KT Rama Rao.

The teams visited localities that were submerged in the floodwater. They assisted the authorities in



shifting people in low lying areas to safer places. The teams in coordination with local authorities including the urban local bodies (ULBs) managed to rescue many people stranded and provided them with primary medical treatment.

“DRF teams were deployed with boats and equipment to Sircilla on the instructions of MA&UD K T Rama Rao. They will assist the district administration in rescue and relief operations in view of the incessant rains and flooding,” Director, GHMC’s Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM), Viswajit Kampati tweeted.

The EVDM officials said that the DRF teams are doing their best to ensure zero casualties so that there is minimum damage to life and property. The teams are coordinating with police and engineering wings while taking-up monsoon related works.

Removing road obstructions such as tree falls, clearing water stagnation, moving breakdown vehicles to safer locations and rescuing people who get stuck in the inundated areas are the major works that are being taken up by the DRF.

The EVDM in a press release said that from August 26 till September 7 more than 184 complaints were resolved and nine people were rescued in GHMC limits. In August 2020, the DRF teams were deployed in Warangal when the city received heavy rainfall.
