Kumram Bheem Asifabad district is now Covid-19 free with seven patients from the district getting discharged from Gandhi Hospital on Thursday. With this the spread of virus has been successfully contained in the most backward district in State. All credit goes to the concerted efforts of district administration and authorities of medical, revenue and police departments.
“Six patients have already reached their homes and one of them is on the way. They will be under home quarantine for two weeks. The district has been freed from the clutches of virus. However, efforts are on to curtail the acute respiratory disease,” Dr Kumram Balu, district medical and health officer told.
On April 11, two sons of Markaz returnee belonging to Jainoor mandal tested positive for Covid-19, sending shockwaves. The returnee was also diagnosed with the disease on April 13. Their four contacts including a woman from Sirpur (U) mandal infected with the virus over two weeks. They all were shifted to Gandhi hospital in Hyderabad.
In order to break the chain of the
disease, a containment zone was made covering 10 villages in Jainoor mandal following the maiden case of Covid-19. Accordingly, 74 health teams were formed and carried out door-to-door surveys to identify patients of the disease. Blood samples of 300 suspects were sent to Hyderabad. Of them, seven tested positive for the acute disease.
Meanwhile, Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha laid special focus on preventing the spread of the virus. He convened review meeting with authorities of health department, revenue and police department every day. As per his instructions, check posts were created on the borders of the district. Screening of those who cross the borders is being done by doctors at the check posts.
Similarly, officials created awareness among the public over precautionary measurea, using different means of publicity. They sensitised the civilians on the need of wearing face masks and using sanitisers and practicing physical distance for curtailing the virus. In all, the slew of steps yielded positive outcome.
