In the GHMC limits comprising 24 Assembly segments, 1,165 nominations were filed when the last date for filing papers ended on Friday. LB Nagar received the most nominations at 87, followed by Rajendranagar (64) and Malkajgiri (60).
The fewest nominations were received from Chandrayangutta (21), Bahadurpura (24) and Charminar (31), strongholds of the AIMIM located in the Old City.
An official of the Hyderabad district election authority explained that some candidates had filed more than one set of nomination papers, in other cases the parties had made back-up leaders also file papers. The
final figure will be available when the last date of withdrawals ends on November 15.
For conducting polls in 15 Assembly segments of Hyderabad district, 8,304 ballot units (BUs), 6,590 control units (CUs) — main components of the EVMs — and 6,409 VVPATs have been procured, an official.
The EVMs and VVPATs were placed in 15 distribution, reception and counting centres (DRCs) located in different parts of the city. A three-tier security system has been in place and CCTV security cameras have been installed at all the DRCs.
