In a major development Telangana Government today taken a key decision to illuminate all 25 municipalities in the state with LED Bulbs in 100 days. With latest technology these bulbs are energy efficient in lighting and LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a semiconductor device that converts electricity into light.

 The aim of the program is to provide more light by consuming less power that will finally reduce power bills. At a high level meeting IT minister KT Rama Rao, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy and officials of power sector held a discussion with ESSL a central government subsidiary at Chief Minister Camp office, to supply the LED bulbs at reduced prices.

KTR asked



the ESSL officials to supply the bulbs at reduced prices. As many as 12 lakhs of LED bulbs will illuminate 12 lakhs of households in the 25 municipalities. KTR said that soon other municipalities will get the facility and asked the officials to prepare a plan of action to extend it to village panchayats. The street lights will get LED bulbs in second phase he said adding that the government will consider to offer these bulbs on subsidy price in the third phase.

Jagadish Reddy said that the aim of the program is to save energy to supply 9 watts capacity LED bulbs for major gram panchayats and the energy officials have taken the job of fixing them. Stating that their aim is to provide LED Bulbs to 90 lakhs of households in the state, Jagadish Reddy said that Medak, Nalgonda and Nizamabad districts will soon get this facility. The government will bear expenditure to supply two such LED bulbs to every household and energy department will get back the in the form of energy saved in the process Jagadish Reddy said.
